Determination - December 2011 Edition

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 12:30 AM

They say preparation is a necessity for the winter season, as many things become scarce as the year draws to a close. For some, it is the best time of the year, while others become scared for the future, because there is doubt as to what the future may hold...

I say, "COME! COME the adventures of tomorrow, COME the challenges of today! I am determined to be who I am and enjoy every moment of this hour. Throughout winter, comes opportunities. Fear not the challenges of the struggle in what we cannot achieve or do, but CHARGE in with the DESIRES OF TODAY!"

Let us continue to build and strengthen the foundations of our attitude in the next series of Attitude building in December's Edition - Determination!

For starters, determination is the essence of being focused: When you are focused on something, you become determined to wholeheartedly see it through the end, without any waiver.

Determination comes at a price: the TIME that you have available. While there may be things you want to do, there also may be too many other things competing for your time. Furthermore you may have taken on too much. You might find yourself as though what you are currently focused on; has been a waste of your time. These kinds of thoughts may send a red flag to your frame of thinking and through this, will lead you back to your normal way of thinking. Making you UNFOCUSED. When you come back to your normal way of thinking, you become distracted. You lose focus and as a result, are taken away from your attitude (you frame of thought and feeling). Remember what we mentioned last time: "YOUR THOUGHT IS EVERYTHING".

If your willing, try out this method. It is very simple and practical:

Think about what you are absolutely focused on right now in relation to where you want to be in the future in your life; if your not thinking about your focus then think about dreams and your goals. Next, make a list of no more than 5 points and rank them from absolutely most important (at the top), to least important (at the bottom). Print them nice and clearly - big with good spacing, so you can read them easily. Look at this list at least 3 times a day, even more if your are really into it. Have fun with it by acting the end result out! Because these 5 points though ranked most important to least important, will eventually be your key areas on which will boost your attitude and bring you closer to success.

See, the reason why I presented this method is because it promotes self-organization. You are physically writing down what is most important to you along the path of accomplishing your goals. When you begin to engage yourself in self-organiaion, it allows stimulation to the brain. This causes you to focus only on the priorities you yourself have written down from the greatest to the least on your list. I do this STYLE of listing because it proves to be more effective psychologically. Most importantly though, is that you use a style that is effective for you!

*(Read "And The Winner Is..." at Adamquiney.com on the psychology of 'the way you do your list' as well as 'momentum effectiveness'. Adamquiney.com is a blog dedicated to growth and authenticity. You can also apply this method for when you fall off track and need to get back up on your feet. If you fall off track from your goal it could be one of two things:

  1.  You have become sidetracked and lost focus of the goal you were pursuing so fervently
  2. You have lost your momentum and determination which lowered your attitude and lessened your interest (not to mention your desire) to complete the goal you were initially striving for.

You see, if you find yourself in one of the these two points you were basically ENVELOPED, or WRAPPING yourself in the WRONG circumstances; which will then cause you to lose sight of the outcome you wish to achieve. When you fall off, your "inner self" will be testing you: Will you succumb to the traits of procrastination, distraction and defeat? Or will you get back up from a TEMPORARY set-back and see everthing through with courage, confidence and unwaivering persistance?

Can you keep your attitude pumping when you are meeting challenges, when times are low? Can you PUSH yourself when you are the only person you can count on? These are things you need to consider when you are on the verge of refocusing and getting back up to have at it! Each encounter and challenge promotes on building yourself, by keeping positive at all times, helping you make it through the think and thin.

When you are so pumped, you want to be the best! when you are so focused on the things you are doing, you push yourself to the limits. But do not get too distracted. By nature, we generally want to be better then one another ("survival of the fittest" as they say). However, these days, unity and thinking about one another has become more essential. I know for a fact there will be someone better then myself, but if I focus on that, I will become sidetracked and even obsessed on beating others. If I focus instead on my own imporvments and better myself, the way I rank myself will continue to grow.

Coming from a sales background, I can vouch that the highest performers of any field, whether it be sales, athletics, dancing, teaching, music, production, etc., have CREATED A HABIT OF ONLY COMPETING WITH THEMSELVES!

You see, when we better ourselves from our previous moment, we are continually succeeding. If you see it this way, you can learn more things about yourself while still keeping up the attitude and persistance. Your growth can continue further beyond what you previously accomplished while still tackling your goals!

When I mentioned ranking, you may have seen it as a ladder. While you are doing better then before, you are continually growing and climbing up to the top, even if it is just by yourself. Now, attach a string to your waist and connect it to someone - brings others up with you!

So, when you are so determined and into something, that something will become a given to you. I believe this strongly. When you are focused, failure does not become an option and the sucess that your striving for is absolutely attainable and can be grasped. As long as you keep your eye on that goal of yours, you can reach it! Think of the story of "The Train That Could" because in the END, the train DID!

If you do not remember how the story goes that is OK! Click this link and reminisce a childhood favorite. (This version from Bedtime Stories maybe a little tad bit diffrent from the ones you may have heard before, but it captures  the same concept).
